  • Saturday, March 2nd
    • Dark Delicacies Bookstore in Burbank, CA : From 2 to 4 PM, author John Shirley will sign his book Demons. Illustrator Gris Grimly will sign the new edition of Joan Aiken's book Cockatrice Boys.

  • Saturday, March 9th
    • Dreamhaven Books & Comics in Minneapolis, MN {at their Lake Street Store} : At 4:30 PM, author Geoffrey Landis will sign his newest book, Impact Parameter and Other Quantum Realities.
    • California Science Museum in Los Angeles, CA : At 10 AM the California Science Center will officially reopen the Air and Space Gallery, formerly known as Aerospace Hall of the California Museum of Science and Industry. The gallery will feature a number of artifacts including one-of-a-kind aircraft, capsules that have been used on missions into space, interactive exhibits and more. The Air and Space Gallery will feature four exhibit areas: Air and Aircraft, Humans in Space, Mission to the Planets, and Stars and Telescopes. The Aerospace Hall of the Museum has been closed since the early 1990s, awaiting refurbishment and expansion. This event marks its reopening.

  • Thursday, March 14th
    • JPL in Pasadena, CA : At 7:00 PM., Dr. Larry Matthies and Robert Hogg will present the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Theodore von Kármán Lecture for March, Autonomous Navigation for Urban Robots. They will discuss JPL's progress toward various goals of robotics research, including Mars exploration and a variety of Earth-based applications. The lecture will be at the von Kármán Auditorium at JPL, Pasadena, CA. Admission is free. Seating is limited.   • Friday, March 15th
    • CalTech Beckman Auditorium in Pasadena, CA : At 8:00 PM., Dr. Stephen Hawking, Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, Cambridge University, will present a lecture Brane New World. Admission is free, but guaranteed-admission tickets will be distributed, on the day of the event only, beginning at 9 a.m. at Beckman. Limit is two tickets per person; ticket holders are asked to be in line no later than 7:30 p.m. Call (626) 395-4652 for additional information or refer to the following web site. {Lines for lectures by Dr. Hawking have been observed to be longer than half a kilometer, so you'll need to be there early to get in.} Additional information about Dr. Hawking can be found at his web site.

    • JPL in Pasadena, CA : At 7:00 PM., Dr. Roger Gibbs, Mars Odyssey Deputy Project Manager will present the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Theodore von Kármán Lecture for May, The Odyssey to Mars. This talk focuses on how the Mars Exploration Program learned from its failures, and how the Odyssey team ultimately overcame the difficulties in delivering their spacecraft on time and on target into orbit around Mars. The presentation will describe how Odyssey is unveiling mysteries of Mars' mineral and elemental composition, and how Odyssey fits into the broader Mars Exploration Program objective to "follow the water," seeking to determine if life ever arose on Mars. The lecture will be at the von Kármán Auditorium at JPL, Pasadena, CA. Admission is free. Seating is limited.
