    Christmas Readings 2010

    Listen to this show

          a christmas candle

    Santa

On Saturday - December 25th, 2010 - Hour 25 joined you in celebrating Christmas with readings of stories about St. Nicholas and Santa Claus and of magical happenings during the Christmas season.

Our first story will be How the Good Gifts Were Used by Two a folk tale retold by the 19th Century illustrator Howard Pyle. In this story we see how two people have completely different experiences when given wonderful gifts by traveling Saints. They discover that it is not the gift that matters but how we respond to the the gift that makes all the difference in the world.

The second story - The Kidnapped Santa Claus - is a tale by L. Frank Baum, of "Wizard of Oz" fame, that has Santa running afoul of some daemons who kidnap him one Christmas Eve in an attempt to bring children over to 'the dark side'. Santa's many very powerful magical friends are ready to come to his assistance but he has an even more powerful defense - the power of his gentle spirit.

So sit back and relax while we tell you some stories. Or listen while you trim your Christmas tree and enjoy some holiday time with your family and friends. And if during this holiday season you find that happiness has come to your party, then be sure to give it a comfortable seat.

How the Good Gifts Were Used by Two.

    Christmas Greetings from the Moon

    Earthrise

It was over forty years ago but I can close my eyes and remember it as if was happening today.

The crisp December air filled with holiday cheer and the promise of a New Year. The Moon cold and bright against black skies as it floated over snow covered houses and fields. The black and white images of a gray Moon covered with craters inviting us to come explore. And a Christmas greeting that let us know that humans had, for the first time, traveled beyond the confines of our Earth.

And from all of us at Hour 25, we wish you the very best for this holiday season. May you be with your loved ones during the holiday season and may all your dreams come true in the coming year.

On Sunday - October 31st, 2010 - Hour 25 joins you in celebrating a night of ghosts and skeletons, of witches and warlocks and things that go bump in the night. Tonight we'll bring you a pair of gothic stories showing how love can reach beyond the grave to find its true measure.

Our first story will be The Harp by Karl Theodor Korner - a tale of lovers separated by death but reunited by a magic harp. Next we will share with you the tale of The Dance of the Dead wherein a wronged musician brings the dead back to life for a midnight dance - for the best of all reasons, for love.

So sit back, turn down the lights and enjoy this magic night while we tell you tales of frightful love.

  • Loscon 2009         Listen to this show

Over the 2009 Thanksgiving Day Holiday Hour 25 continued its long standing tradition of doing the show in front of a live audience and recording interviews with the various Guests of Honor at Loscon. It was a chance to visit with old friends and make some new ones. As always, it was a lot of fun.

However, as we mentioned in our previous show, the last year or more has been consumed by overwork, illness and deaths of family and friends. As a result we were not able to get those interviews online until now. We're sorry about the delay. Consider this show to be one that's coming to you through a rift in time and space.

Our guests joining us on tonight's show include; Marcia Minsky {Loscon Chairperson}, Steve Barnes (Writer Guest of Honor}, Tananarive Due {Writer Guest of Honor}, Tim Rickard {Artist Guest of Honor} and Christian McGuire {Fan Guest of Honor}.
